Our Creative Journey

Brush&Bloom was created by London-based artist Helena Brawand in the summer of 2019 after several years of exploration and experimentation with watercolours.  Her vision for a fine art community dedicated to sustainable creativity lead to the launch her first collection of giclee prints in 2020, with the intention to promote ethical trading practices amongst her fellow creatives.

Helena’s work is influenced by the mountainous landscapes of Switzerland and Canada where her family originates. A childhood spent visiting the Swiss Alps and Vancouver’s West Coast fostered a love for dramatic panoramas and mountaineering adventures, whilst access to London’s museums and galleries nurtured her interest in the arts and the Old Masters.

Despite receiving no formal training, her relentless study of Europe’s masterpieces, access to the unending resources of online media and her daily discoveries of new mediums and techniques have established her delicate and vibrant personal style.

Painting with watercolours began as an exploration of the relationship between paint, water and paper. Our process has always centred around the natural ebb and flow of the pigments running across the page, colliding with different colours and textures and drying in unexpected patterns and forms.

As we developed our creative skills, our attention turned to subject matter of greater size and complexity, which has provided new insights into composition, form and space. From the vast panoramas of Helena’s homeland to the intricate details of freshly picked flowers, her designs for Brush&Bloom continue to explore the wonders of the world through its lines, shades and contours.
